Pastor Roberts is a graduate of Belhaven College in 1973 and Reformed Theological Seminary in 1976. He was ordained by Mississippi Valley Presbytery on June 16, 1976. He served churches in Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma and Arkansas before coming to Destin. He is the founding pastor of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.
Pastor Roberts also served God and country as an army reserve chaplain for 24 years. He was commissioned in 1987 andf retired as a Colonel in March of 2011. He served in Desert Storm from December of 1990 to May of 1991. His final assignment was at the U. S. Army Chaplain Center and School in Fort Jackson, SC where he served from 2003 to 2011, including two one-year periods of active duty. At the Chaplain School, he served with distinction as the Deputy Assistant Commandant while on active duty from June of 2009 to June of 2010.
Pastor Roberts has served on numerous committees at both the Presbytery and General Assembly level. He served as a member of the Standing Judicial Commission for 15 years and was the secretary or assistant secretary for 5 of those years. He has also undertaken 18 mission trips to Russia since 1999.
Pastor Roberts is married to the former Jane Ayers of Winston-Salem, NC. Together they have two children, Sam Roberts and Kara Smith; a daughter-in-law, Jo Roberts; and two grandchildren, Kane Smith and Fiona Roberts.

Dr. Roberts served as an Army Reserve chaplain for 24 years from 1987 to 2011. He served in Desert Storm from December of 1990 to May of 1991. His final assignment was at the U. S. Army Chaplain Center and School in Fort Jackson, SC from 2003 to 2011, including two one-year periods of active duty. At the Chaplain School, he served in several positions, including as the Deputy Assistant Commandant while on active duty from June of 2009 to June of 2010. He developed the first-ever Chaplain Majors Course and wrote a course on ministry to chaplains suffering from PTSD which has become the model for the U. S. Army's suicide prevention program.
Dr. Roberts served as a member of the Standing Judicial Commission for 15 years and was the secretary or assistant secretary for 5 of those years. He has taken over 30 mission trips since 1999 to Russia, Uganda, India, and Myanmar.
In July of 2013, Pastor Roberts became the Executive Director of an independent, Reformed mission agency, Church Planting International. CPI trains and supports indigenous pastors to start indigenous churches which are self-governing, self-supporting, and self-propagating.
Dr. Roberts has also recently written two books, Historic Christianity and the Federal Vision and Samuel Davies: Apostle to Virginia. He was awarded a Ph. D. in Historical Theology by Whitefield Theological Seminary in 2017 for his book on the Federal Vision heresy.
